Look at payload, not GVWR — payload is GVWR minus the trailer’s own weight, and on a heavy-built dump that difference is significant. Material density matters as much as volume: a cubic yard of dry sand runs roughly 2,600 to 3,000 lbs, so a trailer can hit its weight limit long before the bed looks full. Check the payload figure on the specific unit and size to your heaviest material.

A telescopic hoist extends in stages from the front of the bed and gives a strong, clean lift, often paired with a low-profile deck for easier loading. Scissor lifts sit under the bed and are common on heavier straight-wall builds. Both dump reliably — the right one depends on bed height, load type, and how many times a day you cycle it.
